Vietjet’s Inaugural Hanoi to Melbourne Flight Marks Expansion in Vietnam-Australia Routes
Vietjet’s first direct flight from Hanoi to Melbourne landed on Tuesday, marking the airline’s sixth route connecting Vietnam and Australia.
This new route will feature two round-trip flights each week, operating on Tuesdays and Saturdays with the wide-body Airbus A330 aircraft.
According to Victoria’s Tourism Forecasts for 2023-2028, this route between the capitals of Vietnam and Victoria is expected to boost investment and drive demand for tourism, education, family visits, and business travel. The goal is to help Victoria achieve its tourism growth targets and restore pre-pandemic activity levels by 2025.
Vietjet Vice President Nguyen Thi Thuy Binh stated that since the airline’s first flight to Australia in April 2023, it has steadily expanded its network. Vietjet now links Ho Chi Minh City with Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, and Adelaide—the five largest cities in Australia.
Jim Parashos, Chief of Aviation at Melbourne Airport, highlighted the increasing number of travelers to Vietnam as one of the post-pandemic recovery successes in Australia. He noted that Vietnam is currently among the top 10 destinations for Australian tourists.
Vietjet now operates a total of 58 flights per week between Vietnam and Australia. Starting June 8, the airline will also begin passenger services between Sydney and Hanoi.
