Lien Khuong Airport, located about 30 km from Da Lat’s provincial capital, currently serves up to two million passengers annually.
A recent decision by the transport minister has outlined plans for the airport to accommodate a variety of flights, including regular and irregular domestic and international flights, private planes, military jets, and other aircraft.
The airport, which holds a 4D ranking under the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards, boasts a 3,250-meter-long runway capable of handling aircraft such as the Airbus A300 and Boeing B757.
Despite its status as a domestic airport, Lien Khuong has been permitted to operate numerous irregular international flights for tourists over the past few years.
Under the 2021-30 development plan approved by the ministry, with a vision extending to 2050, Lien Khuong Airport is designated as an international airport serving both civilian and military functions.
By 2030, the airport aims to meet ICAO’s 4E category requirements, handling up to five million passengers and 20,000 metric tons of cargo annually. It will be equipped to accommodate aircraft including the Airbus A320, A321, A350, Boeing B747, B787, and similar models.
Looking further ahead to 2050, Lien Khuong Airport is projected to serve seven million passengers and 30,000 metric tons of freight per year. During the 2021-30 period, the existing runway will maintain its 3,250-meter length and 45-meter width, but by 2050, it will be extended to 3,600 meters.
Additionally, the airport will see expansions in its taxiways and aprons by 2030. The T1 terminal will continue to handle two million passengers annually, while a new T2 terminal with a capacity of three million passengers per year will be constructed. By 2050, the T2 terminal will be expanded to ensure the airport can manage a total capacity of seven million passengers per year.
