Five restaurants in Hanoi and eight in Ho Chi Minh City have been newly recognized on the latest Bib Gourmand list by the Michelin Guide, celebrating eateries known for offering exceptional food at reasonable prices. This brings the total number of Bib Gourmand awardees in Vietnam to 42, up from 29 last year.
Among the new additions in Hanoi are Bun cha Chan, specializing in grilled pork belly with herbal sauce; Luk Lak, renowned for its Dong Thinh eel vermicelli; Mr. Bay Mien Tay, famous for crispy fried pancakes with assorted fillings; and Khoi Hoi, known for its flavorful pho noodle soup.
In Ho Chi Minh City, newly recognized establishments include Banh xeo 46A, Bo kho Ganh (beef stew), and the popular Hue-style beef noodle soup at 14B. Also joining the list are Man Moi, Tu’s House, Sol Kitchen & Bar, Com Tho Chuyen Ky offering Cantonese cuisine, noted for its double-boiled silkie chicken soup, and Vi Que Kitchen.
“With 13 new Bib Gourmand recipients in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City this year, our 2024 selection invites food enthusiasts to explore the charm, quality, and rich diversity of Vietnamese cuisine,” said Gwendal Poullennec, international director of the Michelin Guide.
The Bib Gourmand distinction highlights restaurants praised for their high-quality and reasonably priced cooking, making them popular choices among Michelin Guide users seeking exceptional flavors without breaking the bank. Michelin will announce the starred restaurant ratings for Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang on June 27, following last year’s introduction of Vietnam’s first four Michelin-starred restaurants.
Michelin inspectors evaluate venues based on five key criteria: the chef’s culinary identity, flavor harmony, cooking techniques, ingredient quality, and consistency across the menu and over time.
