Discovering Chinatown: Ho Chi Minh City’s New Hop-on, Hop-off Bus Tour

A new sightseeing adventure has rolled into Ho Chi Minh City’s Chinatown with the launch of an open-top, double-decker bus tour this week. Operating on a hop-on, hop-off basis, the bus service promises a journey through the heart of the city’s vibrant Chinatown, offering passengers the flexibility to explore at their own pace.

Running every 30 minutes from 8 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. daily, the tour spans a 20-kilometer route, taking approximately two hours to complete. Passengers can embark or disembark at any stop along the way, from the bustling Saigon bus station to the cultural hotspots of downtown District 1 and the dynamic districts of Chinatown, namely Districts 5 and 6.

Nguyen Khoa Luan, Director of Anh Viet Hop-on Hop-off Vietnam Company, expressed excitement about the tour’s potential to showcase the lively atmosphere and rich heritage of Chinatown, renowned for its authentic cuisine and bustling markets. The route features an array of historic landmarks, including Ong Pagoda – Nghia An Assembly Hall, Thien Hau Pagoda, and Minh Huong Communal House, offering passengers glimpses into the area’s architectural and cultural heritage.

Visitors can also immerse themselves in the local culture by exploring traditional markets like Binh Tay and Kim Bien, along with the iconic Hai Thuong Lan Ong Street, lined with historic Chinese shophouses. Tickets for the bus ride services are available online, as well as at tourist agencies and bus stations, priced at VND200,000 (US$7.86) per person.

This venture marks another milestone for the tour operator, known for its innovative tourist services in Ho Chi Minh City. Building on its success, the company launched the “Sleepless in Saigon” double-decker bus tour last December, offering overnight journeys through the city’s top attractions. With its latest addition, the Chinatown hop-on, hop-off bus tour, the operator continues to provide memorable experiences for travelers exploring Vietnam’s bustling metropolis.
